Herbert Maynard

Herbert Maynard, 91, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Funeral Services will be conducted at 4:00 PM, Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel at Wayne County, WV by David Atkins and Charles Maynard. Burial will follow on Monday, at 10:00 AM, July 2, 2012, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Kenova, WV.

He was born in Wilsondale, West Virginia on April 1, 1921 to the late Dewey Maynard and Charity Maynard Arrowood. He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII. After the war he worked as a barber, ran the Bowery Mission in New York and for many years served as a Baptist Minister. In his later years he was employed at the Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Fl and played the part of “Aaron, the high priest, and Moses”. He retired at age 88.

His brother Archie Maynard and wife Mary Spray Maynard, Obie Maynard and wife Ollie Kirk Maynard as well as infant siblings preceded him in death. Survivors include brother William Ralph Maynard and wife Marilyn, daughters Donna M. Lynam and husband Roy of Wake Forest, NC; Deborah M. Scholz and husband Randy of Sterling, Va; Marty M. Siu of Wilmington, NC; Robin Maynard of Orlando, Fl; seven grandchildren, Angela Suggs, Christa Lynam, Leah Smith, Nicholas Muhar, Michael, Logan and Kalia Siu; five great grandchildren, Lynam and Christin Suggs, Taryn Waldorf and Jonas Black and Lucian Smith. He also had many special nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Morris Funeral Home. The family is accepting donations to the Breast Cancer Foundation, Libbyslegacy.org in lieu of flowers.
